Chakras & Elements

February 11, 2011

In this week’s class we will be looking at the elements that are associated with each chakra.  You may already be familiar with the elements through natural therapies, e.g. Chinese Medicine or Ayurveda, which use the elements to treat patients and enhance wellbeing.  The elements that are associated with the Yoga Chakras are as follows:

  • Mooldhara Chakra – Earth
  • Svadhisthana Chakra – Water
  • Manipura Chakra – Fire
  • Anahata Chakra – Air
  • Vishuddha Chakra – Ether/ Space

During this week’s lesson we will be concentrating on the chakras and the elements whilst performing Yoga asana to stimulate the flow of energy through the chakras, helping to activate them.  This will enhance both physical and mental well being.  We will also be working on Parshvakonasana , the Extended Angle Stretch.  This posture stretches the side of the body, opens the chest and shoulders, stabilises the hip and knee joints. It increases the circulation to the heart and lungs, tones the abdominal muscles and helps to  relieve sciatica
